Gringo in the national final of Transport Hackathon Hackamericas

This past Saturday, 8th of September, Gringo was participating in the Chilean final of Transport Hackathon Hackamericas 2018 organized by Y4PT.

This year marks the third edition of the global Transport Hackathon contest, with a world final in Stockholm. Hackamericas 2018 is the biggest innovation competition in sustainable transport in the Americas. The Chilean national final was created in partnership with Inter-American Development Bank, Chilean Ministry of Transportation and Telecommunications, leading Chilean transport providers and universities.

In the regional stage, along around 40 other teams we were tackling the problems of the Chilean transport industry with solutions that could be replicated around the world. After 36 hours of continuous work supervised by the industry experts and mentors, the teams pitched their ideas to the jury. 11 teams, including Gringo, were selected to participate in the final.

The finalists presented a variety of solutions, raging from innovative child friendly bus seats, through social media analytics for transport providers and smart safety vests for cyclists. The teams had a chance to exchange and validate the ideas among each other and also with representatives of the industry leaders.

Gringo has received a special prize from Metro de Santiago representative, Dieter Albertz. We were invited to visit the construction site of Line 3, one of the most modern metro lines in Latin America.

Congratulations to team Uoman for winning the Chilean national final with the smartest bicycle vest in the world. Good luck in the world final in Stockholm!
